Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ★★★★★

This movie is the definition of fun. I love everything about it. It was one of the few DVDs I had travelling America at 13 years old, and there are still scenes that I can recite along with the characters. The swashbuckling in this is incredible. I walked down the aisle to the theme music! My wife had something a little more romantic for her entrance. It was my first time seeing Geoffrey Rush, and any movie I’ve seen him in since then, I don’t understand why he isn’t playing a pirate—look at him in this!!! The man is a pirate at heart, you can see the glee in his eyes as he ‘yar!’s his way around. This was basically my Indiana Jones. I don’t think I can give coherent thoughts about this movie. It’s just too good, and I was smiling the whole time while watching it tonight.

I recently made my Top 100 Films List (and it was a long process). I joined Letterboxd at the start of 2019, and within that time I’ve rated & reviewed 63 of that 100. So I’m going to slowly make my way through the remaining 37 so that all 100 have been logged on here. This is Number 4 on the list, and I’m looking forward to more.
