Blade Runner

Blade Runner

You’ve really got some great toys in here.

It’s a beautiful warm sunny day out and we ducked into a cold dark theater for a few hours to be immersed in one of the bleakest, most inhospitable blockbusters ever made. Worth it to see this on the big screen. A persistently bizarre palimpsest of a film - there’s so much to see and hear in every frame, and nearly every image and sound is gauzy and indistinct. Much of the story is told through lighting, like in the briefing scene early on. Deckard and his boss are backlit - their faces are shrouded while the light uselessly illuminates the backs of their heads, showing us that they really don’t understand the truth about the situation, the replicants, or even themselves.
