Ben’s review published on Letterboxd:
For Wes. I loved that addition at the end. I think he’d be proud of this film. He pioneered the meta horror genre with Scream and New Nightmare, and the latest entry provides a wonderful closure. At least it has a finality feel to the story. Please don’t make any more no matter how much this makes. I think the writers hit the nail on the head with how they approached toxic fandom and the relationship between traditional old school or slasher horror and “elevated” horror. I hate that term so much and I enjoyed the little bit of stick they gave it without actually dogging on the films people associate with it. Scream kept me on the edge of my seat and eyes glued to the screen. Some moments predictable, others crazy. I never had a huge emotional connection to the series as a total despite the first being an all time great, yet it was still like seeing old friends. What I’m getting at is that this is a very good movie. Don’t let the January release scare you.
