Barbie 2023
hmm i was very whelmed. maybe it’s my fault for having too high of an expectation, but this is definitely greta gerwig at her most corporate. for a lot of the movie, it really felt like anyone could’ve directed. and it was at its best in those moments when greta was able to shine through, like the near-ending with ruth and a lot of the scenes in the real world. overall, it was fun! a little heavy handed on the feminist message (take a shot every time they say patriarchy) but i mean, since when did we ever expect a barbie movie to be subtle?
