Bryan Sudfield’s review published on Letterboxd:
Daniel Craig’s accent in Logan Lucky or Daniel Craig’s accent in Knives Out... which is better? Tough decisions.
A genre that has yet to be reinvigorated in today’s world of cinema is the whodunit (or murder mystery). Each attempt, in recent memory, has been unsuccessful and I was praying for the day, in which we’d get a juggernaut entry in this genre. After receiving the most polarizing reception this decade for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson returns to a smaller-scaled project with a gigantic ensemble in a film he hadn't tackled thus before. I was intrigued with Knives Out, following the announcement of the project and the eventual buzz it'd be receiving from film festivals. Prior to this film's release, Johnson was a filmmaker whose ambitions I admired vastly, especially considering he directed the best episode of Breaking Bad - also, the best television episode this decade. Even if I didn't praise The Last Jedi, I knew I'd enjoy Knives Out because of his previous work and it's another excellent effort from him, while also one of the most entertaining times I've had in theaters all year.
