Lovers Rock

Lovers Rock ★★★★

I don't think I've ever been so utterly captivated, enthralled, entranced and submerged in a musical piece in film as I was to the remarkable filming and essence-capturing of people dancing, singing and responding on uniquely personal levels to the beautiful mercy of Janet Kay's "Silly Games".

McQueen is both DJ and director here, masterfully building up the music as the night goes on, before unleashing a wildly energetic, rough and ready climax to this stunning occasion that threatens to gloriously lose all control as it draws to a rapturous close, almost cruelly leaving our revellers in its wake, deeply reluctant to quit, in protest and loud, unambiguous denial that this party is over.

Now that's a truly great night out.
