Brian J.’s review published on Letterboxd:
I don't think Part 2 flows as well as the Part 1, and the tone is overall more sinister and nihilistic, but at the end of the day this is still one of the best movies ever made. They took the perfection of the first film and added De Niro. You can have no poor outcome from that equation. It's impossible.
Watching this nowadays, I'm always struck by how immaculate and beautiful it is. It's a triumph in every department, a dazzling cinematic treasure. I love every frame. Pacino owns it, taking Michael through a gamut of emotional torture and precise chess-like calculation.
His post-Scent of the Woman movies, it's easy to forget the incredible restraint he had a younger actor. I admire all the phases of his career, but he was best here. Watched via Paramount Pictures The Godfather Collection Blu-ray, The Coppola Restoration, personal collection.
