The Sons of Katie Elder

The Sons of Katie Elder ★★★½

JB’s review: 7/10
“Another winner for John Wayne.”

Really enjoyed this idea of latent revenge and whether or not it can be a truly selfless pursuit. To what degree do they want to mend their family honor and, is it even worth it in a town like this? – A town that maybe isn’t worth saving for once when corrupt capitalism from the East has infected its foundations, and the lawlessness of John Elder’s Western ethos can’t reconcile it.

There’s a very natural chemistry to the standoffish camaraderie between brothers. The comedy may not be effective but was probably meant to even out the graver tone that looms over these late Westerns.
