    I wasn’t crying, you were.

my thing this past week has been watching Pixar movies after extremely messed up Sion Sono films. It’s worked out well, would recommend.

for a slightly abstract piece of work this is quite compelling. the yellow room adds a nice base layer of anxiety, and I loved the sort of twist that changes up the dynamics. watching Koyko jaunt around her apartment reminded me of literally not leaving our homes for a whole year, remember when we did that? anyways, I’m sure I’ll like this even more after some further research and reading, as it was jam packed with a variety of themes and symbolism, I was just too busy enjoying the ride to bother deciphering immediately.

somehow this was marked as watched on my profile already with a ranking of 3 stars!?! well anyways that is for sure wrong, this is one of the best Pixar movies I’ve seen. I truly adored it all.

magnificent. I thought Sono did an absolutely perfect job of capturing the essence of New York while also bringing his own flavor into the mix. the music, the locations, the shaky camera, all helped elevate this film, on top of great performances from the cast. my favorite aspect of this film is that it’s chaotic, but manages to stay (somewhat) warm hearted.

2 days later: this is the film I think about most during this binge of Sion Sono films, and I’m moving this from 4.5 to 5 stars, it is an amazing piece of art.

  • Shinjuku Swan

    Shinjuku Swan

the most digestible Sion Sono film I’ve seen so far (out of 4 total). I really liked this, a mature comedy and the main character, Tatsuhiko is so cool.

I did pause it a bunch because you know how it is if you take your eyes off the tv while watching a foreign film you have no idea what’s being said, but other than that I found this entertaining.

Why Don't You Play in Hell?

starts off a little jumbled and slow but stick with it because it’s so worth it. this is movie is so funny.

yeeeesh. this was tough. a brutal movie, with no remorse. I was disgusted for the last two thirds. It’s strange how fine the line of “too far” is for me when it comes to films.

This was just so ruthless, so bleak.

oh gosh I feel like this tries to be cooler and smarter than it is…just like me!

    Inside Out

after watching a 4 hour epic the night before sometimes you need to decompress with 2 Pixar movies
