Portrait of a Lady on Fire

"RΓ©cupΓ¨re tes affaires, on va piendre (Get your things, we're going to paint)”

Portrait Of A Lady On FireΒ is a simply beautiful film exploring the female version of the male gaze and forbidden love in its truest form. It’s a film that relies on it’s simple quietest moments to capture the raw intensity of love and passion. The many fires within the film stretch beyond the screen and warm you up from the inside echoing it’s feelings of longing and…

    Marriage Story

Marriage Story really is that great. Noah Baumbach is proving to be one my favourite directors currently because of how well he does one thing - writing human dialogue. Echoed throughout his exceptional previous work The Meyerowitz Stories and orchestrating once again beautifully in Marriage Story, it's one of a few films that feels natural and unique with the way the characters interact with each other - they're not fictional characters, they feel like real people. Black Widow

Really dug this, one of my favourite solo MCU titles. Action feels different and the aesthetic is really unique. Florence Pugh completely steals the show but all the cast completely nail the roles, it's not an amazing villain but it very much suits the story for the viliain to take a backseat. The humour rarely feels forced due to the cast chemistry, so you can tell the cast loved making it. Some slight pacing issues and some hit-or-miss accents but really surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

Hereditary is a perfect example of genre film taking risks, and not necessarily appeasing the typical audience. The narrative is slow-paced and disturbing and just as you expect the story to go in a specific direction, it detours into something completely mindblowing yet still being completely captivating. Across the board the cast offers amazing performances with Toni Collette being a stand-out who offers, arguably, an Oscar-calibre performance and the cinematography and direction of this film is way more impressive than…

    White Eye

I dug this, nice little suspenseful drama that packs so much story in 20 minutes. It unravels into a metaphor about society’s treatment of certain individuals in a really impactful way and I thought the one-shot technique was used nicely to show this story which is larger than the short itself.
