The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord

The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord ★★★★★

Okay, am I the only one who thought this movie wasn’t a Christian movie?

Beside the fact that I think most religious people would almost certainly find it blasphemous, I think there’s a big difference between a movie where the goal of a character is to convince someone of something and the goal of the movie is to convince the audience of that thing.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. I think this is about the process of forming beliefs and the oddity of believes and the reasons why people make those sorts of decisions. I think it’s basically an allegory that doesn’t make a judgement call on behalf of the audience but presents a microcosm in a strange context to highlight the strangeness of the subject matter and asks the audience what they think.

It is a little too long and yes it’s low budget but I thought it was really well made and acted and I loved it. If you can get over it not being a true horror movie and saddle up for a slow burn, deliberate vision, and forgive some of the shortcomings of a super indie movie, I think it’s sort of brilliant and a reading of it as a religious movie and not a movie about religion is shortchanging it
