    I’ve been emotionally bamboozled.

At first, I thought Tolkien was going to be a lacklustre slog devoid of any artistic merit - an Oscar-bait biopic that has been told many times before.

I have never been more wrong. Sure, it's a fairly standard story with beats that bumble along a well-trodden path. But it would be wrong if I didn't admit I was moved by the entire thing. That's probably thanks to Thomas Newman's score which only enhance the wholesome visuals of love and language against the backdrop of a horrific war.
