Andrew Boley’s review published on Letterboxd:
Hurt people hurt people
Details that blew me away:
Heart, not only the emotional but the physical. The surreal image of a heart as a family tree that comes up often really blew me away.
Myth making. I love how Eggers sets us up in the middle of an epic fight or feast and then reveals that those events aren’t necessarily happening the way we think. These are old tricks, but the effect is amazing because the movie is about myth and the lies and exaggerations we tell ourselves and our family to provide reason for living.
The hot spring scene is probably the sexiest shot I’ve ever seen in a movie.
