Hereditary

Hereditary ★★★★½

I love how Ari Aster disguises this movie at first as a drama about a family unraveling from tragedy and grief, and how loss can unearth deep-seated emotion and trauma...

Only for him to weave in this supernatural element to the movie that consistently grows more and more pervasive over the runtime of the film.

By the end of it I had no idea if I was watching the delusions brought on by schizophrenia (of which the main character's mother suffered) or genuine paranormal phenomena. I really respect a director who can create a cohesive story and still have me asking "What the fuck is happening?" every 5 minutes.

Toni Collette will probably be in my nightmares tonight.
