I Care a Lot

I Care a Lot is ludicrously frustrating. It seems to completely misunderstand how the audience will feel about its main character, trying to frame her as a badass antiheroine, constantly pitting her up against misogynists with the seeming mission statement of saying if this was a male lead in a gangster film, you'd be rooting for her. The difference is that there is absolutely nothing fun about elder abuse, and the convoluted ways the story makes excuses for her feels utterly ridiculous, and by the end, it becomes unintentionally comedic with how over-the-top the movie wants you to care about her.

Pike does well but she can do this role in her sleep. Dinklage is the real highlight here as oddly the most sympathetic character in it, a brutal mob boss who just wants his mom back. Technically, the score is a highlight and everything else is forgettable The ending lets down essentially every character in it, just being incredibly stupid. However, I Care a Lot fails for nearly its entire runtime, with very little to care about at all. Loathed this.
