Blake Patterson’s review published on Letterboxd:
I recently rewatched Repulsion, and it had similar elements with James Wan’s latest feature, Malignant. Unlike Repulsion, Malignant falls flat on its absurdities and never transcends narrative familiarity. The only shocking aspect is how this is by Wan who is capable of creating a thrilling piece. Also, the electronic theme of “Where is My Mind?” is an unsubtle choice. They have the audacity to play it more than once. This film is not even a decade old, and the CGI looks so cartoonish. In other words, practical resonates and CGI diminishes. To be fair to Wan, there are flashes of bright, intense lighting, but they are in a forgettable product.
