Oh man, you guys weren't kidding. This fucking rules. Ridiculous that of all the movies in one extremely inconsistent franchise, *this* is the one that didn't get a theatrical release. I don't know what studios are thinking sometimes. But yeah, gnarly stuff. A+ doggy too.
If 'Running on Karma' is Johnnie To's "craziest" film, this deliriously paced hospital farce (co-directed with frequent collaborator Wai Ka Fai) might be his most manic. It opens at 100MPH, unfurling like some kind of hysterical fever dream, and doesn't let up for 85 minutes. I've no idea what anyone else I know will think of this - some of the (at times, pitch-black) humour baffled even me - but I had great fun with it.
Tempted to treat 'The Rise of Skywalker' with the same level of disrespect as it seems to have for Rian Johnson and Kelly Marie Tran.
Your mileage may vary, but this mostly played like bad fan fiction to me. Never-ending fan service takes precedence over character development and coherent plotting. A lot of it doesn't even make any sense.
It's also paced so frenetically (particularly the first half), what otherwise would be big emotional moments, don't hit, because everything's…
