Adored this. My favorite kind of messily indulgent and vulnerable filmmaking. It’s so audaciously open, wrestling with the dissolution of a marriage while embracing and dissecting every shitty conjecture made about her by the press. No wonder it was panned.

A brilliant parody of the art film as a concept, Robbe-Grillet smuggling a very funny fetish comedy inside of a sexy French Noir. Love the running thread of everything and nothing at all being revealed inside every compartment. Background gags looming over the proceedings begging you to try and deconstruct them.
The continuous push and pull of the writers’ proclivity towards twists, turns and kinks as they deconstruct the film themselves is fucking wild. It’s like if Last Year at Marienbad was treated with the seriousness of Burn After Reading. So so funny. So good.
Blew me away.
