Bis Khan’s review published on Letterboxd:
To understand why I enjoyed vol. 2 so much you have to know that I had a bad day, and from the very opening sequence, this film perked me the fuck up.
From the very beginning you are thrown right into it. By it, I mean everything we love, want, and expect. And, as the film progresses there is a lot to admire - there are a lot of layers which add to the plot, as opposed to the MCU itself. Oh, and it's pretty, so pretty.
I can totally understand why some people feel indifferent, or dislike the film a smidge - it's a tad on the long side. Or it feels that way anyway. Personally, I don't mind that so much.
Admittedly, there is a point just after halfway where the film drops slightly. But, I mean if you love the characters and their hijinks, then you will see past the drop and the stupid nipple humour (which I did laugh at a lot, so I don't know why I'm being bitter). However, without giving anything away at all, when the film begins to dip into the darker aspects, it lost me a little.
That being said, bottom line, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Two is a sequel that does not disappoint: the film is cute AF, I love Mantis, and I want to bang Kurt Russell.
