Moonlight ★★★★½

a slow crawl, but never boring. it is life as it happens. chiron is just a man and his struggles are displayed in such a quiet, honest way. the performances by alex hibbert, ashton sanders, and trevante rhodes blend seemlessly and it is such a strike of lightning that these three were the actors cast-- without them, the film would not work the magic that it does. the britell score is aching and everything is crafted with immense care by barry jenkins. well deserving of its best picture win, and one of the best to win it.
