Slaughter High

Slaughter High ★★★

When I ignore how potent and sadistic the opening sequence is when the movie sets up the backstory as to why all of these people are slaughtered like pigs, it's not as bad as I remember it.

Still, that opening is really mean-spirited. You've got movies like Prom Night where children act like children and it takes a horrible turn, and you've got movies like Terror Train where a pretty fucked up prank has consequences that linger much more than expected and there's genuine regret about it. In this movie, a group of teens (well, a group of 30 year-olds that are supposed to be teens) torture and humiliate a nerd, get caught, blame him for getting caught, then plant explosives in the chemical lab he's working in, and we're supposed to believe that they didn't intend the insanely fucked up results.

This probably takes the cake in terms of slashers where all of the victims are rightfully murdered. They all had a hand in the taunting and eventual mutilation of someone who did nothing to them, they all seem to have little to no remorse, and they all seem to grow up as pretty miserable people, so fuck it, let's have some fun in watching them kick the bucket.
