  #1 of the year (so far). TÁR is refreshingly trenchant without being didactic. If more directors demonstrated the restraint, elegance, sophistication and maturity of Todd Field we’d have a slew of well-made films that ask difficult questions as opposed to…well, propaganda-driven productions based on clickbait that attempt, in vain, to answer them. Good news: history generally regulates the latter content to its appropriate resting place.
