    ★★ Watched by davidehrlich 11 Sep 2023

Christos Nikou’s “Fingernails” effectively pathologizes the unspoken secret at the heart of the romantic comedy genre: Falling in love is the easiest thing in the world, but staying in love is something you have to work on every day if you want it to last that long.

It’s a secret epitomized (and half-heartedly acknowledged) by the likes of “Love, Actually,” a sprawling matrix of warm and fuzzy crushes in which the only married couple is mired in an unresolvable crisis.…

Why did this movie need 4 different antagonists on top of a science plot. I actually think the humor here works more than average MCU shit because it’s based in the application of superpowers, but it’s diminished by everyone being a try hard funnyman in this movie. Why waste the multiple great actors when they’re only gonna get maybe 15 minutes of actual screen time. Like every mcu product, the solo movies being essentially tie ins weakens what could be a fun film

I feel like I should be calling you Jeanne.

Both a riotous absurdist piece and a quiet, somber examination of cultural assimilation in post-war Japan. The Samurai film gives way to the Western, which becomes the Spaghetti Western, which eventually loops back around to a Ramen Western. Noble sword duels become become tense standoffs become drunken brawls. Enigmatic, nameless wanderers are no longer drawn into protecting communities, but into advancing capital.

What remains is the transitory element that dominates each:…

    Ladies and gentlemen, it happened.

    It clicked.

I don’t know what it was, but today, something happened.

    Praise Dano, it happened.

I’d like to thank my whole team, God, and the 3 and a half other times I’ve watched this movie.

    We did it, Joe.

Reviewed as part of my Dreadit Top Horror Films by Decade – 2018 Challenge.

I remember The Faculty coming on TV a lot when I was a kid. Like seriously, all the time. And yet...I never bothered to see it through. Just wasn't all that interested. Aliens have never been one of my favorite subgenres, and the influence of Scream was all too apparent on this and so many other movies in the late 90's. I like Scream, so don't…
