Ben Anderson’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watched this loads as a kid but hadn't seen it for at least 25 years.
Absolutely loved the concept and the designs of the film. What a cracking idea and some of the set pieces were amazing.
But it really felt like some kind of after school BBC special rather than a decent film. There were some decent scary-ish bits but didn't really go too far as it was more of a kids film. And the humour was pretty bad. I thought the standout was David Warner as the evil one though. He was clearly having a great time and his first scene was the one genuinely funny part of the film.
Great concept and idea. Shame it doesn't really make a great film.
