October 1st continues with the super 80s John Hughes-esque Elm St film the Dream Master!
We get the ultra 80s opening with another catchy jam "running from a nightmare" Although the intro is effective I think Dream warriors has the more effective opening sequence overall.
In addition to the couple of leftover characters from part 3 we get some really quirky new characters. Dean the Hunk, cerebral Alice and her Karate kid brother who comes with his own radical theme song.
Freddy's return is super dramatic as he kills Concade one of the most likeable characters from the last film. Concade's death makes it clear that this film is headed in a darker direction where no character is safe.
This film continues with the super imaginative kills and has some of my favorites (junkyard scene, water bed drowning, math class suck face, bug transformation and the memorable Freddy at the beach scene). I think this film has the more imaginative kills over part 3.
The ending is one of Freddy's best death scenes and the special effects reminded me of something from the Basket Case films.
I've gotta say that my rewatch of this didn't hold up as well as I thought. I think I like part 3 a little more than this one even though this one is top notch. Or maybe they are tied...
