Beau’s review published on Letterboxd:
“There is no civility, only politics.”
Being considered by most the worst in the franchise, The Phantom Menace is nothing short of controversial. It’s the one known for “ruining the franchise,” it’s a film that a lot of people hate.
Fellow reviewer Hayden really got this film down to a T. There’s definitely a lot to criticize about this film; it’s got its flaws for sure. But there’s too many great things to leave ignored. Of course, there’s the iconic pod racing scene, along with the excellent ending fight, but there’s so much more to this film that somehow goes unnoticed.
I could confidently say this is nowhere near the worst entry in the franchise. The beautiful score by John Williams, wonderfully shot and edited sequences, and mostly great performances make this a film to remember. A genuinely well made and enjoyable film that nowhere near deserves the hate it gets.
