    Slugs

    ★★★½

Slugs quite literally oozes off the screen and directly into the viewer’s gut. It’s a nauseating adventure in every shot and I wouldn’t want it any other way. May unfortunately stutter in the third act, but Slugs is a delightful treat for all horror fans.

    ★★★★

Soul is a surprisingly sensory film, beyond anything else. It’s heavily reliant on whether or not you can feel everything going on in a way, and what really pushes it to achieve that goal is the stunning animation, the best I’ve ever seen. There’s a scene near the end of the film where you can see sweat glisten off of the characters’ faces, and my breath was taken away.

    The Fog

    ★★★★

The Fog spent the better half of its runtime lurking in the shadows, not allowing itself to be truly seen until it pounces. It’s a ecstatic feature that shook me to my core and left me shocked. It’s not surprise that Carpenter can make a good horror movie, but he really outdoes himself here.

It really is a shame when a film fails in its last moments, especially when the first 100 are so powerful. It made me sweat, but I do feel a little cheated out of my $20 rental.

Not to say the film is bad, it is a great show of revenge, boasting with great performances all around. I was on the edge of my seat, and this will probably age better the farther I am from it.

Pretty great filmmaking. Vincent Gallo should’ve definitely won Best Director that year.

Edit: DANG IT they changed it back and this doesn’t make sense anymore

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

It's so refreshing to see a feature, especially one featuring majority women or LGBTQ+, that releases its anxieties and only cares about the viewer's raw, unabashed fun. A breath of fresh air; breathe it in while it lasts.
