I liked the movie a lot more once he walked out into the prison yard. The rest felt like a bunch of disconnected scenes from french TV crime series I didn't watch. Vincent Cassel good across the board though, and reason enough to move on to part two.

Wonderful to see "JAWN" in big bright red letters on the New Beverly's marquee, and to get to experience this film projected big in 35mm with booming sound. A lotta love to the edit staff on this film. Included a good post-film Q&A w/?uestlove

Faux-thoughtful journalism that has a lot in common with the exploitative interviews it includes.

I didn't like this the first time I saw it, but it was a sleepy watch so I gave it a second shot at the recent Camp Fangoria rooftop screening. On second viewing, I probably hated it even more. There's some great elements: grounded, convincing acting, brooding electronic score, and incredible practical effects -- but they all ultimately serve a boring story and unlikable characters. Also, seeing Harvey Weinstein credited for story makes a lot more sense in hindsight. Throughout the film you're asked to sympathize with sexual predators, and the flick particularly relishes punishing females unwilling to put out.
