Intolerable Cruelty

Intolerable Cruelty ★★★

Goldiggin' for love.

It saddens me that I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would, up until now George Clooney has always given solid performances but I guess this is just a slight bump on the road in my journey through his filmography. Catherine Zeta Jones on the other hand had the weaker performance, and her character was so one dimensional and frankly I don't think she meant to be likeable because could not see why Clooney's character was head over heels for her. The writing is supposed to witty and comical, and for the most part hit that goal, I just never found myself howling in laughter with any of the jokes. The romance felt a bit rushed and the build-up was almost non-existent, so by the time they were "loving" each other I was already halfway rolling my eyes. I love all the cameos in this and that's probably the only reason why I'm giving this 3 stars, shoutouts to Richard Jenkins, Geoffrey Rush, and Billy Bob for playing such quirky characters.

This movie does paint a realistic picture at the gold digging scene that's apparently rampant in the world of ceo bigwigs, it's unfortunately a world that I don't care about since money has never been something I purposely seek. There's also the emotional chess game that happens with pre-nups, it's a bit hard to fully understand with all the switch ups that occur, but the movie does a pretty good job at "explaining" how these procedures work.

Overall this was okay, it has a fair amount of both good and bad qualities, but for the most part is quite entertaining for a romcom, recommended for anyone who likes random cameos.
