Obviously hugely influential and groundbreaking for its time, but I do believe that the ‘best movie ever’ status does it a lot more damage than good. I love the symbolism, the mise en scene is excellent and the cinematography is beyond impressive but honestly on a first watch I felt that the story left a little to be desired. While the writing is mostly fluid and beyond competent, I think there are areas that could and should’ve been polished, but this is a purely subjective opinion, and the film does remain, for the most part supremely impressive.

Had the pleasure of seeing this in the Prince Charles, with a Q&A with Jim himself and like all of his work, it remained effortlessly funny, tense and clever throughout, with a jaw dropping finale. Very different to the two preceding films in his ‘alcoholic cop’ trilogy, but just as excellent !

“And for a long time you wouldn't feel anything. But then you'd burst into fire — forever. And the angels wouldn't help you, because they've all gone away.”

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me examines both trauma and the fantastical in such a beautifully tragic, flawless way. It not only gives insight into the circumstances around and leading up to the death of Laura Palmer, but also introduces us to a whole league of characters, ideas and settings, some of…
