I reject the notion that all movies have to have some sort of happy moment to make the audience feel good. I believe true art makes the audience feel strong emotions. This movie is Fear. It's agonizing to watch these seemingly never ending scenes that make you uncomfortable, but that's exactly what they wanted you to feel. To feel what African Americans were going through at the time. There was a scene in the movie where a character said something like "being black is like having a gun always pointed at your face." And for the entirety of that scene in the motel it felt like I was the one with a gun in my face. Extremely stressful and suspenseful, with a VERY good villain with good motivation. I cared for the characters and how they turned out. 5/5.
