The Woman King

The Woman King ★★★★

While using a different historical framework American audiences are used to in epics, it retains a familiar arc watching a young, bratty noob evolve into the badass warrior they were destined to be — the hybrid creates an element of crowd pleasing cinema usually reserved for the heavily IP driven these days.

Tried, true formula on how pairing the right screenplay, the right director, the right cast — Hollywood film producing in the most classical of sense — can still provide that classic Movie Magic®️.

The actual historical accuracy I can’t speak on but what I can speak on is the text as bildungsroman fiction which does wonders engrossing viewers into the aggressive, brutal atmosphere and novelistic story structure. Stellar performances all around. First picture I could see sweeping at Oscar season.
