The origins of Sarah Fier's curse are finally revealed as history comes full circle on a night that changes the lives of Shadysiders forever.

This is a trilogy that presents us with three extremely different films that each capture something special about the Horror genre. The quality is definitely there, but it feels so split when you look at which film people prefer and why they prefer it. Most probably prefer the sequel, but I found the first to be the better of the two. This third entry looked to tackle the most haunting themes yet, but it also had the toughest task of all, and that was to wrap up the entire franchise by answering all of our questions. Because of this, the movie is split into two distinct parts. Part of the story is exactly what the preview spelled out, and the other half brings us back to our characters from the first. While both halves have their strengths, at this point, it does feel like a story that would have worked better in a television format. This could have easily provided six episodes and worked as a distinct Netflix Horror show.

All of this being said, this third movie caps off the story we have gotten so far on a high note. The obvious comparison for the first half is The Witch, and even if it is not near as rich on a thematic level, there is plenty to sink your teeth into. This town develops this mob mentality towards the character of note because of her actions, and they revolt against her in every way. This is terrifying, tragic, and heartbreaking. Then we make our way to the future where the trademark Fear Street cheese returns, but it feels fairly natural. The film does a nice job of tying up loose ends without going overboard. The biggest negative is how jarring that transition between halves is, and how I was content to spend most of the film in the past. The 1994 events capped off the story nicely, but the promise of 1666 paid off while feeling short lived. I do wish the trilogy was less cheesy overall, as that is what is keeping me from enjoying it even more so, but this third entry is a good finale for these characters. Overall, Fear Street managed to impress me.
