A hard-working, blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 8-year-old daughter. His mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires.

As ridiculous and predictable as it gets at times, Day Shift manages to payoff on its cast and conventional formula. Jamie Foxx thrives in this setting, and being paired with Franco throughout most of the movie allows him to play off of his skillset. Foxx plays a man who goes into his missions with a family-first mentality, and even through this chaos, he manages to maintain his dignity. Beyond the reason behind why we care for him as a character, the plot and overall story are lacking here. The world feels like one that should have been fleshed out much more than it was. There are more than a few questions that could have been explained with a simple line or two. The ridiculousness of certain moments also manage to take away from the fun, but the fun remains due to some kick-ass action scenes. Props to the actors and stunt-workers who played these vampires because these characters were incredible to watch contort their bodies and fly backwards. Every gun-shut feels impactful, and the combat-centric scenes are fun. The story holds its fair share of twists, but the plot is so aimless that you are essentially in it for the characters and actors. Snoop Dogg is also fun to watch alongside Foxx. The end result makes for a solid experience on Netflix.
