Adam Hursey’s review published on Letterboxd:
This film was fine, but I think it may be the one for me this year that the critics rave over but does not totally vibe with me personally. But I usually feel this way after watching a Jane Campion film for whatever reason.
Johnny Greenwood does his best to try to infuse the film with constant anxiety and dread with his score. And it works for the most part. And I gotta respect Peter’s long game. I wonder if a second viewing would help me appreciate the film more. Perhaps. But, similar to something like Mank last year, I’m not sure I will get the opportunity for a second look.
Edited on 12/3/21 to add: Maybe this film is growing on me the more I think about it. Sort of like Phantom Thread did. I really will need to watch this one again to see how all of the puzzle pieces fit.
