  I feel like I’ve waited my whole life for a cerebral horror film that refracts the existential terror of trying to survive as a queer person in a homophobic world through the gripping and frightening lens of genre storytelling.

  Sadly, this is not that film.

  Despite some handsome, but generic camerawork and a conceit that’s moderately novel and engrossing, this is a mess. The acting is all over the place, the tone and pace are hampered by a jumble of tropes and cliches and, most disappointingly, although the subject of homophobia is addressed constantly, the movie doesn’t even come close to acknowledging the protagonist’s blackness.

  It's not great, by any stretch of the imagination, but it passes the time, it passes The Bechdel Test, and, for once, it doesn't peddle any bullshit morality messages about how pure it is to live under the oppressive rule of capitalism and somehow not want or need money.
