Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Slightly uneven in its opening half but still a terrific drama, telling a hugely important moment in history. Shaka King and Will Berson's screenplay is intelligent and complex but this is a film of acting above anything else.

Lakeith Stanfield, Dominique Fishback and Jesse Plemons are all memorable but it is the man, Daniel Kaluuya, who rules over them all. He's surely the frontrunner for the Best Supporting Actor award (though why him and Stanfield aren't in Best Actor is just bizarre) and goes from powerful revolutionary to caring boyfriend to selfless comrade in the blink of an eye.
