In theory The Northman has everything needed to be a 4 star film, but in reality something didn't quite work for me. I can't really put my finger on it but this didn't grip me nearly as much as I thought it would.
Everyone's acting was great, as was the film's atmosphere, and all the mythological craziness was also very welcome. Alexander Skarsgård and Anya Taylor-Joy were both compelling, and the story was engaging (if a little clichéd). Perhaps there was simply too much Nicole Kidman.
