Ahhhh what a great time! I liked this so much more than I expected. I am a big Damien Chazelle fan, so I don't know why I doubted this. Probably because the lackluster promotional material and talk about it online. I couldn't catch this on the big screen, boy would I have loved to. One of the craziest things I have ever seen, a violent cinematic masterpiece. Director Kinji Fukasaku showcases raw skill by putting on display one of the finest action movies to come out of Japan. This was a clear influence on a lot of pure violence cinema since. This was disturbing yet campy, a fun viewing experience and also a rather scary one once you start thinking about the underlying themes and meanings of the story.
