Angel's Egg

Angel's Egg ★★★★★

This is what I would call slow moving beauty. In fact, this is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. It's simply breathtaking how it manages to transport you to another world through its absorbing visuals, impeccable design work and a haunting score; one of the most magnificent film scores I've listened to, truly glorious.

Angel's Egg is a work of outstanding artistry, depth and beauty. It reminds me a bit of Tarkovsky's work; ethereal, enchanting, moody, poetic, contemplative, almost hypnotic, thought-provoking and full of rich symbolism. It's a fascinating and immersive experience through and through, to the eyes, to the ears and to the mind.

There's definitely a lot to talk about, regarding the themes and meaning of this film, and much of it is open to interpretation. It clearly contains some heavy religious themes and metaphysical implications. It's very surrealist, and has almost no dialogues, therefore, the story is told mostly through its fantastic visuals and sublime music.

I have to be honest, I really enjoyed this film, it was such a unique experience, and I've been thinking a lot about it these days. I want to dig more into it, there are plenty of aspects I want to analyse. I didn't find anything negative about it, I was quite astounded by it. I usually don't give a film 5 starts before rewatching it, but, in this case, I simply did find it quite special. I'm rewatching this soon, anyway.
