Lauren 👹❄️’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow what an insane film! I was completely captivated from the very beginning to end, I really loved it! It felt like two genres coming together - action/true crime and creature feature horror.
The movie immediately hits the ground running, I mean, that opening scene?! Holy sh*t 🔥 And it only gets crazier and worse from there! George Clooney played menacing so well as Seth, and Quentin Tarantino was so f*cking creepy as Richard, jfc 😳😨 I’ll never be able to unsee him as that character ever again, *that* bedroom scene is forever seared into my brain.
The rest of the cast was amazing, there were so many actors in this movie! The RV family were really good, I particularly loved Harvey Keitel as Jacob and young Juliette Lewis as Kate. It was interesting getting to see Seth bond slightly with the family as they made their way to Mexico. I can’t understand why he continued to tolerate his POS brother, but he was ever so slightly redeemed for me through the second and third act because of his actions.
Then we finally make it to the Titty Twister bar! Another set of great actors here; Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, and Tom Savini were my favourites. Also, Salma Hayek’s dance scene…oh my god. 😍😍 I was completely mesmerised.
Then we enter the third act, and all hell breaks loose! The special effects and gore were absolutely awesome in this part of the film, all the fight scenes were crazy fun to watch! The hair and makeup on the vampires were so freaking good, too! There were also some heartwarming and heartbreaking moments towards the end, it gave the movie some added depth that I really enjoyed.
The ending was great, and that very last shot of the back of the bar was so freaking cool!! I audibly went, “woooah!” This movies takes you on a complete journey, what a wild ride!
I had to add that there was also some fantastically well done cinematography, I loved so many shots in this film. For example, *that* bedroom scene was made all the more horrifying by only getting flashes of the room on screen while we witness Seth react to what Richard did. I loved seeing the creativity in all the unique shots used throughout this movie.
This is an instant new favourite film for me, I had such a crazy but great experience with it. I was shocked, horrified, invested, and moved. What a rollercoaster, I can’t wait to watch it again! If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I couldn’t recommend it more!
