Kinda by the numbers but it’s elevated by Farmiga and Wilson. They really bring a gravitas to the story and they are easily the most interesting part. I can see why these two characters spawned their own Conjuring Universe
Wan also has a lot of restraint throughout the film, opting for suspense rather than jump scares. A lesser director would end his film on that mirror and do a jump scare but Wan leaves the shot open-ended, ending in silence instead. Bravo

The gap in quality between Avatar 1 and this one is a grand freaking canyon. Avatar: The Way of Water improves on and even deepens the original in every way, much like every sequel Cameron has ever made. The film elevates everything great about the first (Pandora, creatures, themes, world building, SFX) while downplaying the things that didn’t work (Jake Sully as a protagonist, villains).
