Don't Worry Darling had everything within its toolbox to be something spectacular but is somehow less than the sum of its parts. It’s amazing, this is both the longest feeling movie i’ve ever seen while also moving at a breakneck pace. I knew next to nothing about Elvis before watching and all I keep thinking now is what a glamours tragedy his life was.
And that I’ve never felt such negative things towards Tom Hanks.
Falling in love with someone is such a specific feeling and Paul Thomas Anderson manages to portray that in a uniquely cinematic way.
If there was ever a formula to materialize a feeling, this would be it. Barry is at times frantic, anxious, flighty, and euphoric. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that's what falling in love tends to feel like. It's unpredictable and awkward but exhilarating in the most human way.
Still not sure what the harmonium has to do with anything but who cares! It's great! We love it! PTA forever!
