“baby, why are you all wet?”
from U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels’ point of view, the world is against him, and the audience believes it. shutter island is a masterpiece in that it dares you to believe something, only to crush your beliefs...over and over again.
on a first watch, it can seem that the genre of this movie is suspense or even horror, but the second or third time around, it becomes a tragic love story revolving around a deeply traumatized man and his desperate psychiatrists. this film plays with your heartstrings in unconventional but effective ways. i <3 it!
