Shame ★★★★½

A cold dissection of sex addiction from Steve McQueen is the basis for this. Fassbender and Mulligan are uniformily terrific, especially together on screen, and the deliberate style with which McQueen shoots makes a lasting impression with the subject matter here. The cinematography and music make it a film for the senses - the despair burdens you, the viewer. It's the most effective way of feeling how an addiction can so burden the physical and psychological aspects of a human being. The viewing is a draining one. But, its small window into a tortured soul is enlightening and aesthetically challenging.
