Alfonso CuarΓ³n bends the Harry Potter narrative to his will with a strong aesthetic that had not been applied to the first two films. Whereas Chris Columbus just put those books up on the screen, CuarΓ³n makes the film more his than just another entry in a cinematic blockbuster series by allowing this third story to flourish in its plotting, its pacing and, most especially, its complex themes that build up its characters. What results is the first film in this series to have an actual sense of identity and a sense of purpose that ends up being stronger than any of the seven other films in this series.
This is cinematic fantasy of the highest caliber.
