I’m positively surprised. From a film advertised as a metaslasher filled with nostalgia for 1970s, I certainly didn’t expect a serious meditation on the role of sex and desire in our lives!

This film takes its time to get to the bloody parts and while it delivers in this department, neither gore, nor the titillating scenes are the most important aspects. The filmmakers use large part of the plot for... building the atmosphere and character development! Ha! The director/screenwriter Ti…

Just as great as I remembered. I think this is one of the best psychological horrors ever (some purists may call it a psychological thriller but I like my horror definition to be more inclusive).

Robin Williams was such a versatile actor. I've read he was seriously considered for Jack Torrance in Kubrick's The Shining. This film and Insomnia (2002) (so so underrated) suggest that he could pull it off easily. I miss his presence in films and I wish…

    Dr. Terror's House of Horrors

    ★★★

This is an anthology film with five episodes and the framing story... where the framing story is the best part. It shows five men in the train carriage and then the sixth one enters, the title Dr. Terror, played by the irreplaceable Peter Cushing. Dr. Terror, I mean Dr. Schreck, as he introduces himself, uses tarot cards to predict the doomed fate of each of the passengers. (I kept thinking that Stefan Grabiński, the Polish Poe and a big fan…

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight

How cool is that title? It doesn't matter if it makes sense, that's one cool title and in Polish it sounds even better. I just wish I could like the film more.

It is a commercial Polish horror film (very rare occurrence) that is self-aware but not enough to escape its own generic nature.

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight is basically adapting American slashers and Wrong Turn/The Hills Have Eyes into the modern Polish setting, using the teen movie…

With this film I have reviewed every Nightmare on Elm Street film except the 2010 reboot. And you know what? Controversial opinion coming through - Freddy vs. Jason is my second favorite film in the franchise (after Dream Warriors). I even like it more than the original Nightmare! Believe me, I'm as surprised as you are.

Everything here is just in proportions I like: the humor is there but doesn't turn into goofiness and if you accept the rules of…

    The Vampire Lovers

The Vampire Lovers is an erotic Hammer / AIP film which is also a vampire horror film. If you want some character development, forget it, it's mostly about stunning ladies wearing revealing flowing gowns, with perfect hair and full makeup on. It's like looking at a suggestive painting coming to life. Someone gets bitten from time to time and there are few beheadings but most of the runtime is the parade of attractive women in revealing gowns.

    Well, to be…
