Exodus: Gods and Kings

Exodus: Gods and Kings ★★

Grand, bold and epic in scope, Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings is visually stunning film, but one that unfortunately is a boring, tedious affair, and it’s a great shame because Scott is absolutely wonderful at making epic style films, a prime example is of course Gladiator. Exodus is a film that feels way too long than it needs to be, and it could have been a rousing spectacle with great performances and stellar action. Unfortunately nothing ever really comes to fruition and it’s a film that takes way too long to get to the point. I was hoping to enjoy the film, but aside from terrific looking set pieces, Exodus is a mediocre picture that could have succeeded if the script would have reworked to make it a better film. For me, this is one of Ridley Scott’s worst films, and I think it’s a shame because the idea here is great, but there just isn’t any depth to make the story stand out. As it is, I felt that it was a picture that was far too ambitious, and it relied more on its concept to make it interesting, instead of telling a really good story, which definitely lacked. Well, if you’re looking for the worst directorial effort from Ridley Scott, Exodus: Gods and Kings is a film that doesn’t do anything interesting, and in turn it is a boring movie that doesn’t have anything going for it to make it memorable, entertaining and thrilling. If the film’s script would have been better, than maybe the movie would have been much better, but as it stands, it’s a picture doesn’t deliver and you shouldn’t waste your time with this one.
