holy cow! expected something goofy and silly and instead got one of the most formally stunning and genuinely creepy/moving horror movies i’ve seen in a while. familiar thematic material in this current horror landscape but puts all those movies to shame. even when it does go to those pulpier places it does so with a straight face and earns it by being cool and propulsive in equal measure.

John Wick: Chapter 4 2023
obviously this didn’t need to be 2h50 but i was never bored and it felt shorter than the last one! skarsgaard rlly sucks because he refuses to ham it up with the accent and gets totally lost in the process. each one of the previous three has an angle to help give it spice — first is elevated (but un-gentrified) dtv with johnnie to inflections, second is buster keaton thrown through a suzukian meat grinder, third is an artifice-forward reflection…

Spaceballs 1987

History of the World, Part II 2023
a pretty good imitation of brooks’ style right down to how uneven it is (though this is more so than even mid-tier mel) but when it’s funny it’s really funny. hit fast forward sooooo fast when i saw taika waititi tho lol
