At first I wasn't sure whether such an old film would surprise me so much that it has become one of my favorite films.
It's just that this film, with so few resources, is still so good and better than many other films. The film is quite overwhelming when you see it for the first time, even if it's not on the big screen but only at home. The film is incredibly creative, incredibly entertaining and sometimes incredibly emotional. It is also incredibly full, with ideas, with characters, with twists, with themes and approaches. The Wrestler is a stirring, well-played drama that seems heavy, but still leaves time for short moments of happiness and hope. Ultimately, we're all just looking for our destiny.
VERY hard to watch but the themes it tackles are so essential, important and sadly timeless. And the way it handles and executes all of it is very impressive. Trainspotting is brutal, heartbreaking, disturbing and not for the faint of heart. Great job Danny Boyle, great job.
